The Department of Pediatrics was founded in 1979.

Leadership

Professors Qiu Jingyu and Zheng Min successively served asadministrative directors, making outstanding contributions to the department’s early development.Since 2019, Professor Yu Minfeng has served as administrative director.

Research Scope

The department focuses on integrated TCM and Western medicine inthe clinical diagnosis, treatment, research, and education of common pediatricdiseases, including:

pneumonia, asthma, acute tonsillitis, attention deficithyperactivity disorder (ADHD), tic disorders, purpura, nephropathies, cerebralpalsy, autism spectrum disorder, and pediatric infectious diseases.

Current Operations & Personnel

The department currently runs 2 inpatient wards with 40 beds andemploys a medical team of 53 professionals, including:

1 renowned TCM physician of Jiangxi Province

2 renowned/excellent TCM physicians of Shenzhen

1 doctoral supervisor

2 master’s supervisors

1 postdoctoral researcher

3 PhD holders

17 master’s degree holders

It handles approximately 200,000 emergency and outpatient visitsannually, with over 1,000 inpatient discharges per year.

Subspecialties

The department has established structured subspecialties covering:

pediatric respiratory medicine, gastroenterology, neurology,endocrinology, immunology, nephrology, allergy, and preventive medicine.

This professional division supports a tiered talent structure,differentiated subspecialty development, refined clinical workflows, andsystematic personnel training, strengthening the department’s overall capabilities.

Academic Development & TCM Inheritance

Supported by Shenzhen’s “Famous Doctors, Hospitals and ClinicsInitiative”, thedepartment has recruited the TCM pediatrics team led by Professor WangWangchuan from Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine, further elevating itsclinical and research capacity.

To preserve and advance the academic legacy of seniordistinguished TCM practitioners, the department established the Work Station ofGuangdong Renowned TCM Doctor Yu Minfeng. It actively explores the coreprinciples of the Five Yun and Six Qi (Five Cycles and Six Qi) theory from theHuang-Di Nei-Jing (Yellow Emperor’s Internal Classic), emphasizing harmony betweenhumans and nature. It flexibly applies the San-Yin Si-Tian Formula, Long-ShaPlaster, and Long-Sha Kai-He Six Qi Acupuncture to treat refractory pediatricdiseases and support pediatric health conditioning, fully embodying TCM’s holistic and syndrome-differentiation approaches.

To leverage TCM strengths, the department has developed a seriesof in-hospital preparations and standardized prescriptions, including:

Pediatric An-Shen Bu-Nao Granules

Notably, Pediatric An-Shen Bu-Nao Granules was selected for theThird Batch of Ling-Nan Famous Medical Institution Prescriptions of GuangdongProvince.

The department offers a comprehensive range of integrated andTCM-specific treatments:

Long-Sha Plaster and other common pediatric plasters

Long-Sha Kaihe Six Qi Acupuncture

Evidence-based TCM appropriate techniques

Modern procedures: pediatric bronchoscopy, pediatricelectroencephalography

TCM appropriate techniques include:

pediatric tuina (internal medicine tuina, rehabilitation tuina),pediatric chiropractic, four-seam needling, copper Bian scraping, bloodlettingtherapy, auricular point pressing, balance cupping, moxibustion (includingbianstone moxibustion), TCM herbal fumigation and washing, fire dragon pottherapy, and TCM herbal application.

These therapies significantly shorten treatment duration andimprove clinical outcomes.

Research Achievements

The department hasbeen awarded more than 20 research grants at all levels, including projectsfrom the National Natural Science Foundation of China. It has also publishedover 100 professional papers in peer-reviewed academic journals bothdomestically and internationally.
