History

Established in 1991, the Department of Encephalopathy is one of the hospital's longstanding clinical departments with a distinguished history of service and innovation.

Honors & Designations

The department holds prestigious accreditations as a Key Specialty Construction Unit of the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, a Key TCM Specialty of Guangdong Province, and a Key TCM Specialty of Shenzhen City.

Leadership

Professor Guo Zhouke served as the founding director, making exceptional contributions to the department's establishment and early development. Since 2021, Professor Qin Xiude has led the department as both academic director and administrative director, guiding its continued growth and modernization.

Clinical Scope & Research Focus

The department specializes in the integrated TCM-Western medicine diagnosis, treatment, research, and education of neuropsychiatric and neurological disorders. Clinical expertise encompasses cerebrovascular disease, dementia, Parkinson's disease, myasthenia gravis, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, depression, anxiety disorders, and sleep disorders.

Current Operations

Facilities & Capacity The department operates two inpatient wards with 73 beds, supported by dedicated diagnostic facilities including an EEG laboratory and a transcranial Doppler (TCD) laboratory. Five specialized outpatient clinics focus on cerebrovascular disease, cognitive impairment, and psychosomatic medicine.

Clinical Volume The department handles over 60,000 outpatient visits and more than 2,000 inpatient discharges annually.

Academic Collaboration & Innovation

Strategic Partnerships With support from Shenzhen's Medical and Health "Three Famous Project" (Famous Doctors, Hospitals, and Clinics), the department welcomed Academician Zhang Boli's team in 2021. This collaboration has guided the development of an innovative "Integrated Chinese-Western Medicine, Simultaneous Body-Mind Treatment" clinical model. The partnership established the National Medical Master Zhang Boli Inheritance Studio, advancing the preservation and transmission of elite TCM knowledge.

Academic Heritage To promote the legacy of renowned TCM practitioners, the department established the Guangdong Famous TCM Doctor Guo Zhouke Inheritance Studio, ensuring continuity of his clinical wisdom and academic contributions.

Integrated Care Systems The department has developed a stroke green channel for rapid intervention and a comprehensive psychosomatic medicine diagnosis and treatment system, enabling seamless, patient-centered care across neurological and psychological domains.

Research Integration Through deep collaboration with the Evidence-Based Medicine Center at Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the department conducts rigorous research to optimize clinical protocols and advance evidence-based practice in integrated neurology.
